The mission of the Cornell Alternative Breaks Program is to promote service-learning through direct public service with various communities to heighten social awareness, enhance personal growth, and advocate lifelong social action.
We are a student-run board that facilitates service-learning trips during spring break. Beginning in the fall semester, students who have been accepted on a team attend 12 weekly team-building meetings to prepare for their trip. Specific trip topics include: urban poverty, hunger, inadequate housing, domestic violence, commercial sexual exploitation of youth, homelessness, educational reform, labor issues, HIV/AIDS, environmental damage, and LGBTQ youth homelessness.
